Do the movers take breaks and meals?
Moving is hard work and takes time so the team will take breaks and meals. On a local move, time that the movers spend eating lunch will not be part of the move time. You do not have to provide them anything, however, water and/or drinks for the movers are always a welcome (and appreciated)!
Are there any items that you cannot move?
Hazardous or combustible items such as propane tanks, firearms, paint, and aerosols cannot be loaded into our trucks. Speak with our Move Consultant and we can advise you on specific items.
Do i need to empty cabinets and drawers?
Will the items be safe in the drawer and can the cabinets/drawers handle the weight as they are moved. If you are not sure – unpack them, you don’t need to start off in your new space with furniture that has fallen apart or files in disarray!
How can I be most helpful to prepare for the move?
Our movers are prepared to do whatever is needed to make your move a stress free move but you can also help. If you are doing your own packing try to use professional packing materials and use plenty of them. Once you have completed the packing, make sure you label the boxes accurately so when the delivery to your new home is happening there will be no confusion.
If we are doing the packing for you, then please have the house organized and ready to go. The less organized you are the more time it will take our packers to do their work and the longer it takes the more you will be asked to pay. Organization will save you money at the end of the day.
What days are you available?
There is no better day for us – we work 7 days a week all year round. However, some guidelines to make this easier are:
· Don’t schedule the move exactly on the day of closing or other event – take some breathing room to allow for unexpected changes.
· Movers are always busy at the end and the beginnings of each month, so if you can move in the middle of the month this will be easier and less stressful. During the summer season pretty much every day is a busy day in the moving business so try to plan ahead and book your move with time to spare.
How much should I tip movers?
How much to tip movers is a common question with a very simple answer: Whatever you think their service was worth! If the team does a good job, is courteous, and you are happy with their work, they would greatly appreciate any extra they get. We suggest a tip as if you were tipping a server in a restaurant; in other words giving the movers a tip between 10% to 15% of your final bill is an appreciated gratuity.
Are you licensed?
This is a very Important Question: Family Moving and Storage is a fully licensed moving company that complies with the regulations created by the state’s Department of Agriculture & our license number is IM # 2930. The Interstate Commerce Commission regulates our company for interstate moves. In addition we have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
How do moving companies charge for their services?
Move pricing is based on your home size and how much stuff you have. Some moves (local) are time based and others (long-distance and international) depend on the weight and volume of your items. We guarantee a smooth and professional move for an affordable price – but remember, quality service costs money – be wary of the lowest cost quote. Make sure it includes everything and that the movers are experienced. Our Move Consultant can visit your house to provide an accurate estimate so there will be no surprises.
Can you move plants?
We are forbidden by law to transport plants across state lines. We can move plants locally; however, we cannot guarantee their safety. In general, we recommend that you transport plants in your car if possible.
Can we ride inside the truck?
For insurance reasons we cannot transport you to your new location. We ask that you arrange for your own transportation beforehand.
Do the movers come with boxes on the truck?
Our crews come fully prepared for any circumstances that might develop. If you need boxes or other materials, please let you Family M&S representative know prior to your move date and we will have them available at the jobsite.
Can we help move?
For local moves which are charged by the hour, anything you do to help will usually cut down on the total time of the move. For long distance moves which have a flat price, the best way to save money is to pack efficiently before-hand. In general, it is best to be well prepared and organized for the move (packing, labeling, etc.), and then let the crew do their job efficiently on move day.
What is travel time?
In a local move, travel time is the total time it takes us to travel to and return from the job site(s). This may be charged as actual running time, or it may be charged as a flat time. It does not include the time to drive from your old location to your new location. (this is considered moving time). Your Family M&S representative will explain the applicable travel charges.
Can clothes be left in drawers?
In general, we recommend that you unload items from all bureaus, desks, dressers, etc. Doing so will make the movers job easier and also prevent damage and loss. For small, light dressers, leaving light clothes in the drawers should be fine (use your best judgment).
Do you charge for materials?
We charge for any one-use moving materials that you request or that are used by the crew (boxes, packing paper, tape, etc.)
Do you require packing services?
We provide packing services either on the day of the move or the day before (depending on the circumstances). If you choose to pack yourself, we can deliver boxes to your home at no charge any time you would like. There is no charge for the delivery. If you would like us to pack just a few rooms or only the kitchen we can do that and if you would like to pack the entire home we can accommodate this request as well. We are happy to provide a custom solution to meet your needs.
