"Let Our Family Move Your Family"

When it comes to common stressful experiences, moving likely tops the list for many individuals. This makes sense, of course, given that we spend most of our time establishing roots and “nesting” in our Melbourne homes. When it’s time to pull those roots from the ground and pack away all of our belongings, the resulting emotions can be strong and worrying. Professional movers can help alleviate some of that concern, especially when it comes to packing! The right movers can help pack your items securely and stow them in an organized fashion. If you’re doing it all yourself, however, then take our word of advice: label your boxes!

Why should you label boxes?

Packing is probably one of the least enjoyable parts of the moving process. It’s time-consuming and, frankly, most of us have things we’d rather be doing with our time. This can lead to people rushing through the process at the very last minute and just tossing things into random boxes. While it might seem as though this is an effective method to shorten the amount of time you spend packing, it greatly increases the amount of time that you will spend unpacking. We can assure you that even if you think you have a handle on your boxes and how many you’re using, they will almost always seem to have multiplied by the time everything is packed and moved to the new location.

Something else to keep in mind is that the moving process, unless it is planned and orchestrated by a professional, can tend to feel extremely chaotic. This is the downfall for many people who think they can keep track of what’s in their boxes by the order in which they are loaded and unloaded alone. Things move during transit and tend to be dropped as quickly as possible when it’s time to unload, especially since there’s no indication about what’s in the box or where it should go. The end result is a pile of “mystery” boxes you’ll have to open and carry to individual rooms on your own.

How to Label

One of the most common ways to label boxes is to put the room where the box should go on the box. You might end up with a pile of boxes with “kitchen” on them, for example, and another pile of “bedroom” boxes. This is an effective way to label your boxes, however it might be a good idea to add a little more information. Things like plates or mugs, for example, need to be handled carefully. Put the contents of these boxes on the exterior of the boxes themselves so that everyone knows to handle them carefully.
