"Let Our Family Move Your Family"

Moving can be a stressful time even under the best of circumstances. Under the worst of them, you can find yourself incredibly frustrated and left with damaged belongings. Moving doesn’t have to be that way, however, and you can help make the day go smoothly by following a few packing tips. When it comes to your artwork, for example, it’s important to understand the best way to transport your items to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. At Family Moving and Storage, we have plenty of experience moving valuable and fragile artwork from Vero Beach to Melbourne and all the cities in between. Let’s take a look at some of our most helpful tips!

Insure Your Investment

Making the decision to insure your artwork for its worth is a great one, especially when you’re moving. While not damaging the artwork is, of course, the best outcome to moving day, knowing that you have the item(s) insured will likely be a great relief for your mind. When it’s time for your move, double-check that you’ve insured all of your artwork on the off chance that something happens to it. At the very least, you’ll hopefully be able to recoup your investment and protect your finances.

Wrap It Well

Another tip, perhaps more hands-on than the previous, is to wrap up your artwork well. Paintings in particular are susceptible to scratches and dents, especially when they are packed with no padding or other protection. Instead of taking that kind of chance with your artwork, make sure that you use acid-free clear bubble wrap or plastic wrap to give the items in question some protection from the elements as well as the move. Make sure that you use the right kind of wrap for your artwork! Oil paintings, for example, will need a specific kind of wrapping to ensure that the paint is undamaged.

Don’t Pack Flat!

It can be tempting to pack artwork flat. After all, the paintings and canvases themselves are flat, so why not? Well, it turns out that packing your artwork this way is one of the fastest ways to damage them. Imagine what would happen if something fell on that painting or canvas or placed too much pressure on it? Your artwork would be irreparably damaged. Instead, you should pack it on its side, hopefully between two heavier items that don’t easily shift during the move. This will help ensure that it remains in place, protected from sharp objects or liquid.
